Paradise in a walled garden… Enjoy being waited on in one of Marrakech’s most comfortable country houses.
It is hard to say which is the most appealing aspect of the Villa; its cool classic architecture and stunning interiors; its convenient yet serene location; or the pampering for which it is famous.

The Villa is a stunning property, 13 Kilometres south east of the city of Marrakech and 20 minutes drive from Menara Airport on the road to the Ourika Valley in the direction of the Atlas Mountains.

Marrakech is 13km and we are 12km from Ourika, the fertile and scenic valley where almost almost all the vegetables and fruit are produced for Marrakech and where there is a wonderful Berber market on Mondays. The High Atlas Mountains are just beyond offering endless walking and riding possibilities. The 5 cascades of Setti Fatma are close by and provide a more challenging excursion.

Morocco is a fascinating destination and Marrakech is positioned perfectly to enjoy the diverse landscapes and cultural activities. The desert, mountains and the sea are all within hours and your stay will never be long enough to enjoy all that it has to offer. Marrakech is vibrant and full of the most wonderful restaurants and nightlife. The contrast between the more modern town and the souks of the old Medina are a source of fascination – the shopping is excellent in both!

This private villa is set in a mature five-acre walled garden full of palms, olives, citrus, roses and a large fountain. The cool pure air from the mountains mixed with the scent of the orange trees makes it a wonderful place to relax.

Villa Marrakech was originally built by a French Colonel 70 years ago. It was completely renovated in 2003. The style is now Mediterranean which compliments its light and spacious rooms. The villa has been beautifully decorated using traditional materials and Tadelakt decorative plaster work along with Zeliges tiles, Diss and Bejmatt local bricks. The rooms in the villa are 4.5 metres high and 0.5 metres thick which provide great insulation.

The drawing room has 1930’s Egyptian wall hangings along with mother of pearl inlaid Syrian mirrors. The bedrooms have silk wall hangings, comfortable beds, ceiling fans and air-conditioning.

At night the front of the villa, drive and fountain are lit by candlelight lanterns. The palm trees in the gardens are also illuminated.

It is the perfect place to stay and to use as a base to visit the medina of Marrakech, the valleys and Berber villages in the Atlas Mountains, or the beaches and fish restaurants of Essaouira.

The Villa can accommodate up to 12 people staying in the main house and the pavilion.

Garden

The mature 5 acre garden is enclosed by high walls and is abundant with palm trees, olive trees (we make our own olive oil), citrus and fruit trees. A thousand roses scent the air along with mimosa and jasmine and is a perfect haven for birds. The overflow swimming pool is 20m x 5m with a “beach” area, ideal for small children to paddle, and there are plenty of sunbeds and parasols.

The pool can be heated on request, usually during November – April (extra cost applies). There are various terraces around the property which are ideally suited for different times of the day. The clay tennis court is maintained to a high standard and there are racquets available (always best to bring a fresh tin of balls!).

Potagerie

As well as the many citrus and soft fruit trees in the garden, there is also a large Potagerie (vegetable garden) which provides the vegetables, salad and herbal teas for the house.

Flights & transfers

Marrakech is the shortest distance that you can travel from Europe and wind up somewhere genuinely different. There are regular flights from the UK and many European airports. Flying time from the UK is around three and a half hours, and less from many European destinations.

The nearest airport is Marrakech Menara Airport (20 mins by car). Airport transfers are arranged on your behalf and a minibus and driver for up to 12 guests costs a total of approximately £140.

Easyjet, Ryanair, Thomson, British Airways, BMI and Royal Air Maroc all fly from various UK airports on a daily basis.

Currency

10 Moroccan Dirhams are worth approximately £0.75, €0.90, CHF1.00. The rate is subject to daily fluctuations.

There are endless cash points but not all work all of the time. The situation is similar with credit/debit cards. Take several as, for no reason at all, they can be rejected.

Timezone

Marrakech is on Greenwich Mean Time. In summer the time is one hour behind GMT.

Food

The cuisine of Southern Morocco is world famous and truly delicious. The Marrakechis are superb cooks and there is a wonderful variety of vegetables, fruit, fish, shellfish, meat and poultry. Morocco produces some easy drinking wines. You will also find many fine Moroccan, French and Italian restaurants along with first class hotels.
