Lucca is an enchanting Tuscan town, a tiny gem encircled by massive walls. These walls fronted by lawns with trees, enclose a centre of atmospheric medieval streets and towers, well-preserved Romanesque churches and palazzi. Irresistible food shops, often with Liberty signs, wood pannelling and beautiful tiles offer delicious seasonal fare. Strolling through the historic centre, pausing at old-fashioned boutiques, cafes, pastry shops and visiting churches and museums is a real pleasure. Lucca's classic dishes reflect the city's wealth, torta di erbe is a Renaissance vegetable pie studded with pine nuts and raisins, fragrant with spices that only the rich could afford.

A visit to Tuscany would not be complete without visiting Pisa's famous Leaning Tower. Exploring the centre by bicycle is fun and easy but a a stroll through Pisa's streets will give you a true flavour of this Tuscan town.

A little known region of Tuscany which borders onto Liguria is the Lunigiana, known for the beauty of its mountains and an old-fashioned pace of life. Extending from the Apennines to the mouth of the Magra river, the Lunigiana is rich in mediaeval history: castles, Romanesque churches and ancient villages of extraordinary beauty dot the landscape. The coast and the pretty villages of the Cinque Terre with their superb walking trails are also within easy reach for interesting day trips.

Casa Novedi is set in countryside surrounded by a lawned garden and mature trees, yet only a 10 minute drive from the beautiful town of Lucca, Novedi is ideal for large groups. Luxurious and spacious with excellent staff and facilities, there is even a private sixteenth century chapel and a gym.

Originally the farm buildings of the impressive Villa Donati estate nearby, Casa Novedi has been recently restored and refurbished to an extremely high standard using authentic materials in the traditional Lucchese style. With terracotta tiled floors and chestnut beamed ceilings, the property has modern, well equipped kitchens and bathrooms, plasma screen TV's with sky satellite and DVD, stereo systems, central heating and a gym.

Casa Novedi has a light and airy feel achieved by clever design features such as discreet windows between the roof beams to complement large windows and matching coloured furnishings. The spacious and comfortable bedrooms with cooling ceiling fans all have access to an elegant bathroom, most are en suite with a full bath and separate walk-in shower.

The immaculately presented main house is connected by a large courtyard to the barn with further accommodation of a similar high standard to the main house, an opportunity for inviting more friends and family to stay. Surrounded by private gardens, the house and barn look onto an inviting pool for refreshing dips in the warm summer.
