Property Description

Bradley House is situated in the ancient forest of Selwood and is the home of the Seymours, the Dukes of Somerset. The land has belonged to the family since Henry VIII granted the dukedom in recognition of the family's achievements for him. Jane Seymour was his third queen and the only one of six to produce a male heir, the future Edward VI. Her brother, Edward, was created Lord Protector of the realm and another brother, Thomas, was Lord High Admiral.

Edward and his successors first built a castle at Berry Pomeroy in Devon but it was not until 1688 when another Edward Seymour, Speaker of the House of Commons, commissioned the architect Hulbert to build a house of Bath stone on this site.

Today, Bradley House remains the home of the Duke of Somerset and stands in beautifully maintained gardens at the edge of the village. Held within are many historical artefacts and heirlooms including the Tudor Oak bedstead used by Queen Jane and Henry VIII.

Bradley House is the perfect venue for weddings and other special occasions. With stunning views across the surrounding estate, the house really does provide a wonderful venue in which to share a unique day with your family and friends.

The House is licensed to hold civil marriage ceremonies and can seat up to 100 guests. The panelled dining room with its beautiful 18th century tapestries and magnificent fireplace can accommodate 70 guests for a seated meal and both the Library and Music room are available for pre luncheon or pre dinner drinks.

Inside the Property

Ten bedrooms are available within the house for those wishing to stay overnight. It has a further two bedrooms that are attached to two of the double bedrooms although these rooms would share a bathroom. There is also a nannies double bedroom. In total the house sleeps twenty five people. Children can also be accommodated in put-up beds.

Bradley House provides seclusion and privacy in a magnificent setting. The various reception rooms are ideal for small meetings of 10 guests or up to larger meetings of 80 guests.

The dining room is ideal as a venue with the original mahogany dining table seating up to twenty guests. Parties of up to seventy guests can be seated for a meal at round tables.

For those wanting additional space, marquees can always be arranged on the side lawn and the immediate parkland is ideal as a location for car launches or other big occasions.

Outside the Property

With its location in the Selwood Forest, the estate offers unlimited potential for a host of outdoor activities, team building and incentive days.

The wonderful Clay Pigeon Shooting ground and 4 x 4 off road driving course are both within easy distance of the house and a variety of other country pursuits such as archery and falconry can be organised by our dedicated event organisers.

Bradley House is located South of Warminster and Frome on the B3092, and seven miles North of the A303 just half an hour from both Bath and Bristol. It is under two hours from London on the M3 and A303, it lies between the regional airports of Exeter, Southampton and Bristol.
