Property Description

Zanzibar, a part of the United Republic of Tanzania, is a series of many islands, the main ones being Unguja and Pemba. The more populated of the two main islands, Unguja, is better known as Zanzibar Island and is home to Stone Town (also known as Zanzibar Town or Zanzibar City), an historic, bustling city of narrow alleyways and stone coral buildings. In addition to the two main islands, there are many other islands and islets in the Zanzibar archipelago which stretches from the top of Pemba to the south point of Unguja.Zanzibar is a few degrees south of the equator and enjoys a tropical climate that is largely dominated by the Indian Ocean monsoons. The kasikazi winds are from the north and occur in the winter months bringing the short rains. The long rains, known as mwaka, arrive in March and last until late May or June. Swahili is the official and national language of Tanzania but English is also spoken in Zanzibar, and a percentage of the population also has a working knowledge of Arabic. The population consists of people from the following ancestries: African, Persian, Omani (and other Arab states), and Asian. The local economy is based on agriculture and fishing. The population of the archipelago is estimated at over 740,000 while the population of Unguja is estimated at almost 450,000, forty per cent of which live in Stone Town. For all rentals there will be a maid, cook and two house boys to attend to all your requirements and to ensure your stay is as enjoyable and relaxing as possible.

Inside the Property

For 2009 the house will totally be refurbished and will be ready for rentals at the end of May/June.

This traditional thatched Zanzibar house is located on the North East of the island right on the beach. The four well sized bedrooms have two double beds and two twin beds. One double has an en-suite bathroom, the other three share a bathroom. The living room/dining room is all open plan and has a wonderful breeze coming in from the beach. The terrace looks out over the sea and although one can see the sea the terrace is hidden by beautiful flowers and shrubs. The furniture is typically African made of hard woods with lovely fabrics on the chairs. All the beds have huge mosquito nets It is set in a wonderful location and one can hear the waves hitting the beach from indoors.

Outside the Property

The house will have a stunning new varanda with views out to sea.

The house is set in beautiful gardens full of tropical plants and flowers. There are tables and chairs for outdoor dining. A barbeque is available which can be set up by the house boy who is on hand to take care of any washing and cleaning and shopping that you may require. The garden is very secluded and the terrace is a perfect spot to hide away from the mid-day sun.
