Property Description

This stunning villa is a  luxurious four bedroom property on the East coast of the Caribbean island of Antigua. Sleeping 8 people in great comfort, the house is in a unique setting atop a small cliff with spectacular bay views and benefits from the cooling trade wind breezes. Very private and secluded and therefore ideal for those seeking peace and tranquillity. Suitable for several couples, or families with older children .

A stylish mix of contemporary Caribbean style and Balinese furniture and décor, with beautiful greenheart wooden floors and louvered doors and windows, the villa's living area is a series of linked rooms that open out to get the best of tropical living.

The house sits close to a 40 foot cliff and has spectacular views across the bay. The view also encompasses a national park with as well as a small beach. There is private access to the sea from the property giving access to excellent shallow water snorkelling.

Inside the Property

Please note that due to the layout of the bedrooms, the villa might not be suitable for families with young children, who may require interconnecting bedrooms.

All rooms are large, airy and comfortable with ceiling fans, and every room has a view of the sea.  Windows and louvred doors are all mosquito screened.

Kitchen:
Polished greenheart floors and Andiroba wooden work surfaces, the kitchen is a cook’s dream. Everything you could possibly need to produce a wonderful 3 course meal or just a light snack is at hand. Huge Viking refrigerator and freezer with ice dispenser, Viking double oven gas range cooker, and a Viking dishwasher. The large central work table and storage cupboards with distressed finish are handmade by Chalon in the UK. There is an ice cream maker, a Magimix food processor, a Dualit toaster, a Nespresso coffee machine (bring your own Nespresso coffee capsules) as well as a regular coffee machine. And if you don’t wish to cook for yourself a local chef can be organised.

Sitting Room:
A lovely room with two double louvered doors opening out onto the front terrace and the wonderful views across the bay. On the other side of the room the two double doors open onto the secluded Balinese gardens. On the third side the doors open onto the games room and the swimming pool area beyond. Tastefully decorated, with pictures and furniture from all over the world, this room is a lovely area to sit on comfortable sofas and watch the flat screen television or listen to music, or just relax with a book or chat with friends.

Master Bedroom:
The master bedroom is accessed either through a door from the sitting room, or from the front terrace as it has double louvered doors opening out onto the terrace. Two sash windows look out to sea, whilst the double doors look out to the bay and national park beyond. A massive antique carved four poster bed from Bali, with custom made mosquito net and patchwork cover, dominate the room. There are bedside tables and lamps, desk and chair, planters chair and a wooden chest.

Master Bathroom:
The bathroom is large, light and airy, with a wooden floor and two circular stone washbasins and a bathtub with carved stone tiles with Balinese dancing girls on the wall. At one end there is an open air rainshower set amongst the tropical foliage of two planters.

Dining Areas:
There are two dining areas. When it is not too windy then it is lovely to have a meal on the front terrace under the pergola. This can seat up to ten people. The main dining area, however, is between the games room and the kitchen, under a high pitched roof and open on both sides, one side facing into the Balinese gardens, and the other onto the swimming pool area. There is a large round teak table and seating for eight people under a ceiling fan.

Games Room:
The games room has double louvered doors opening out onto the front terrace and another set opening onto the swimming pool area. There is a billiards/pool table (8’x 4’) and a darts board.

Bedroom #2:
Down a covered walkway between the two Balinese courtyard gardens is the second bedroom. Two sash windows look out to sea, and on the other wall large double doors open out onto the garden. There is a king-size four poster bed with custom made mosquito net, behind which is a large painting of parrots set in a jungle scene. Bedside tables with lamps, desk and chair, and a wooden chest at the base of the bed. Walk through the open dressing area into a bathroom with a ‘garden’ shower and two stone washbasins.

Bedroom #3:
This bedroom lies beyond the kitchen. It is a twin bedded room, each bed with its own mosquito net, bedside table and lamp. There is an antique chest on wheels which is full of adult and children’s games and a desk and chair. Two sash windows look out to sea, and there is a double louvered door which opens onto the garden. Open dressing area leading into a shower room with single stone washbasin.

Bedroom #4:
This is beyond bedroom #3. It has a king-size wooden bed with mosquito net, bedside tables and lamps, a desk and chair. Two sash windows looking out to sea, and two on the opposite wall looking onto the garden. Walk through the open dressing area into the shower room, with a single stone washbasin.

In a separate set of buildings away from the main house is the utility room with washing machine and dryer, iron and ironing board. This is generally the maid’s domain, but there is a toilet and shower which can be used in an emergency. There are several store rooms for linen, etc. and the gardener’s equipment room. The last room houses the generator that will come on automatically if there is a power cut to the house.

Outside the Property

The Swimming Pool:
The swimming pool has an infinity edge giving out onto the bay. With steps leading into the shallow end, and the deep end at the infinity edge, a trio of carved Balinese frogs spout water into the pool. There are six teak sun loungers and mattresses and two reclining chairs around the pool.

The Gazebo:
The gazebo has a definite air of the Far East to it, with a large Balinese day bed and table and a carved stone window. It looks over the swimming pool and out into the bay and the sea beyond. It is a wonderful spot to lounge out of the sun, with a rum punch in hand and read a book, or just gaze into the distance.

The Gardens:
Because of the salty atmosphere it is hard to have a truly lush tropical garden in this part of the island. Consequently the outside garden has been left more or less as it was before the house was built - grass with succulents and cacti and a few shrubs and low trees. Where the garden is sheltered by the house, as in the inner gardens, then it is easier to have a more tropical feel. Outside behind the utility room area it is more sheltered and bananas, pineapples and papayas have been planted, and you may be lucky and have some if you are there at the right season.

The Bay Steps:
There is a stone path leading to the cliff with steps down the cliff to the sea below and a small stone platform giving onto the bay. From here on less windy days it is possible to swim and snorkel, and you will probably have the place to yourself.

Barbecue:
There are two large hand made coal pots which are locally produced barbecues. They are made from clay, and use charcoal, and work very well.
