Outside the Property
Mount IrvineThe well-known Mount Irvine area is the setting for many of our most prestigious villas in Tobago, which have been built around and above the 18-hole championship golf course. The course itself which is characterized by swaying palms, was built on the site of an old 18th century sugar plantation and the low hills behind, provide many of the villas with their fabulous views down over the rolling course and coconut trees to the sea.
The beach at Mount Irvine is a fine strip of yellow sand, deep and clean, with water calm enough to explore the offshore reef and the rocky pools, swarming with crabs and tiny fish are a delight to explore at low tide. The beach has a good range of facilities, you can rent windsurfers, sailfish and snorkeling equipment.
In addition to golf, green fees are payable, equipment can be hired locally.
You can play tennis at the Mount Irvine Bay Hotel.
The Tobago Plantations Golf & Beach Resort, with an 18-hole par 72 PGA championship course and a whole range of other amenities is approximately 10 minutes by car.
Nearby to Mount Irvine is a little fishing village of Buccoo, which is the venue for what are now Tobagonian institutions: the Easter Goat & Crab Races and Sunday school. Not "Sunday School" as we know it, but a lively street party with food, dancing, music and limboing into the early hours of the morning. Also well worth a visit is the Kimme Museum, the private gallery of German sculptor, Luise Kimme, who settled here in 1979. Her three-metre-high carvings in oak depict Tobagonian folk and dance and are truly stunning.
