Property Description

Ohana sits high up, on one end of a small sandy cove, with panoramic views across the sea towards Trinidad.

The palm tree and bougainvillea lined driveway leads through a portico with 14 ft high main doors into the tranquil courtyard.

The quality of the villa is reflected in the materials used for its construction and it is built almost entirely of teak and other tropical materials, with much use of Jalousie shutters to enhance the cooling sea breezes through the villa.

Accommodation

The enormous open-plan living and dining area looks out across a 60' x 30' koi, stocked pond, a separate bedroom wing, the swimming pool and to the sea.
The spacious kitchen is equipped with quality stainless-steel appliances and the tiled counters are trimmed with Purple Heart wood. There is a large pantry and utility room adjacent to the kitchen and a powder room accessible from the living area.

An open-air barbecue area is just next to the kitchen and overlooks the bay below the villa.

Each of the four luxury bedrooms are distinctly furnished and well equipped with four-poster beds, air-conditioning and ceiling fans. Three of the bedrooms open onto verandahs overlooking the pond and the sea. The fourth opens onto a central meditation courtyard. The Master suite is well placed to enjoy exceptional views across the elegant pool, gazebo and the blue sea beyond. The en-suite bathroom has an open shower and bathtub with shutters that also open out onto this spectacular view.

Locally hand-made soaps, woven slippers and bathrobes are just some of the extra touches that you will find to make your stay as enjoyable as possible.

This is a villa in which to be pampered and to relax. Just take a swim on the semi-private beach below the house, which is accessible only by three villas, or in one of the two swimming pools, soak in the Jacuzzi, or sit under the gazebo with a local sundowner, before sampling the cuisine of your two housekeepers, who are excellent and authentic cooks.

Please note only children over the age of six are accepted.

For all periods of rental
linen and towels are included in the price.
Together with Utilities and Services: water, gas, electricity, air-conditioning etc. for the duration of the rental.

Outside the Property

Local Area

Scarborough is Tobago's capital with a population of 18,000 out of an island total of 50,000.
Essentially rustic it's an appealing place, with an energetic little port and the island’s main market. Here you can exchange news and views with the locals in the fruit and vegetable street market, on Fridays and Saturdays. Scarborough is where you will also find the main Post Office, banks and hospital.

The Botanical Gardens are worth a visit as is a small but interesting museum with great views across the Atlantic and over to Trinidad at the top of the hill at Fort King George.

Set on an outstanding beachfront site, four miles to the west of Scarborough, the new Tobago Plantations resort development with a number of deluxe villas, a number of which we are featuring. Covering over 750 acres and set around the Petit Trou Lagoon, the resort features natural and man made amenities including a mangrove forest and a wet land area, Golf and Country Club with 18 holes of golf (7005 yards and par 72), another 9 are planned for the future, tennis courts, a Health Club, Beach Club, horse riding as well as all the facilities of the Tobago Hilton Hotel with its dive shop and excellent water sports facilities.
Kayaking tours are available to the Petit Trou Lagoon to the south of the resort through the dive shop, which also rents out kite surfers. Located just off the Claude Noel Highway, most things are within easy reach.

Scarborough the capital is a 10 minute walk away, for groceries try Gourmet Foods at Morshead’s in Bethany, about 5 minutes, or Penny savers, about 10 minutes.

The Tobago Hilton has two restaurants and a pub with live entertainment on selected evenings, otherwise the Cat & Fiddle, less than 5 minutes away, is a lively nightspot on Friday and Saturday nights.

To the east of Scarborough is the residential area of Bacolet, nestling amongst coconut groves and fronted by Bacolet Bay, one of the best Atlantic beaches and the setting for Ohana, one of the most distinctive villas that we feature in Tobago. Ohana is located in a quiet, residential suburb along the coastline and has a number of villas as neighbours. Just across the road is La Belle Creole restaurant with adjoining small hotel, and further along is the refurbished Blue Haven Hotel, which in the 1950s attracted Hollywood stars such as Robert Mitchum and Rita Hayworth. Shopping (though limited) a market and local restaurants are all within the Scarborough area, which is approximately five minutes by car. For good, local food, try the Blue Crab. The nearest supermarkets are Penny savers in Carnbee (20 minutes by car) or Gourmet Foods/Morshead’s in Bethany, about 15 minutes away.

Beyond Bacolet the beautiful Windward Road curves too and from the coastline, with glimpses of long Atlantic beaches, coconut, and cocoa groves. You pass through sleepy little towns and villages and you can stop at plenty of good bathing sites along the way. It is worth visiting Richmond Great House, dating from the 18th century, and just inland from Roxborough the Argyll Falls a 177ft, the highest in Tobago, with a number of pools ideal for swimming.

In the far north east Speyside is a centre for activities, go scuba diving on the many challenging reefs, or bird watching offshore at the Little Tobago sanctuary, or take a trip with a guides into the rainforest. A visit to the unspoilt fishing village of Charlottesville, held by many to be the most picturesque town in Tobago is also a must.
