Property Description

Villa Fourques is a luxurious modern, 4 bedroom house located in the centre of the villa of Fourques, with its own private and not overlooked swimming pool, terraces and garden.

The property is an authentic 'Catalan' house, full of charm and character, originally built in the 19th century by a vine-growing family.

This unique villa is situated in the heart of the village of Fourques, with a boulangerie, butchers (an award winning butcher with several shops throughout the region, with another in nearby Llupia - a must for all epicureans!), paper shop, chemist and Post Office all within walking distance.

Fourques is a typical quiet wine producing village, with its own Cave Cooperative on local Route des Vins du Roussillon.

The villa is only a 10 minute drive from Thuir, an attractive town famous for its Byrrh, a fortified wine, and about 15 minutes from the beautiful town of Ceret, where the Museum of Modern Art has a number of drawings and paintings by Picasso, who lived in the town in the 1920's.

In both Thuir and Ceret, there area large supermarkets, an English speaking Dr, great restaurants, cafes and bars. The markets on Sunday mornings are an absolute MUST.

The medieval village of Castelnou, one of the most beautiful villages in France, is only 15 minutes drive from the villa, and is a lovely place for an evening stroll.

The Mediterranean beaches, the famous artists' town of Collioure, the Spanish border town of Le Perthus (tax-free shopping) and walks in the Alberes Mountains are all approximately 20 minutes drive away. There are the long sandy beaches to the North and the small coves to the South. There is excellent snorkelling and diving in Port Vendres or Banyuls.

The ski resorts of the Pyrenees are about an hour and a half away. Mt Canigou (2,784m), of great spiritual significance to the Catalans, can be climbed in the summer.

Inside the Property

Behind the old and original stone frontage and azur wooden shutters, is concealed a large Master House of 170 m2 with a 150 m2 terrace, a charming swimming pool and a private garden.

The villa has recently been tastefully restored to the highest modern standards, and will comfortably sleep 8.

On the First Floor of the villa, there is a large, open plan, bright living/dining area of 80 m2 furnished with 2 sofas, a wide-screen TV, DVD player with a selection of films, and a stereo. Around the wood burning fire, the living room has been recently decorated with magnificent Catalan woven curtains. These hand crafted drapes are made in the nearby town of St Laurent-de-Cerdan in the pure tradition of old Catalan weaving.

The dining area has a large wooden table which accommodates 8 people comfortably. This room is also decorated with the same 'Toiles du Soleil' Catalan drapes.

Close to the dining area, the large American kitchen is fully equipped to the highest standard with everything needed for a fabulous self-catering holiday.

There is also as separate WC with wash basin on this floor.

The kitchen doors open out directly onto a large terrace of 150 m2 and is furnished with a teak table and chairs. Perfect for enjoying the sun and sweetness of the Catalan climate of dining al fresco.

The villa has 4 bedrooms.

The Master bedroom is located on the Second Floor and has a king-size double bed and is air conditioned. The bedroom is large enough to accommodate a child's cot, which may be provided as required and has wonderful views of the Alberes Mountains, which act as the frontier between France and Spain.

The second double bedroom is also on the Second Floor and overlooks the magnificent Roussillon Plain, vineyards and the sea in the distance.

The children's bedroom is also on this floor and is a twin bedded room.

The First Floor bedroom is flexible, in that it can be used to sleep up to 2 people, or used alternatively as an office, or simply a place to relax and read.

An additional place to relax is also available on the mezzanine, which is up the stairs from the living area, where there is a large comfortable sofa.

The bathroom is equipped with a large bath and wash basin. Toilet and bath towels are provided.

There is a utility room with a washing machine on the Ground Floor.

Outside the Property

The second part of the first floor terrace houses the private swimming pool which is fully enclosed with lockable gates, making it safe for families with young children.

The swimming pool is surrounded by the original ancient walls of the villa, which give a 'typical cachet' to it. The pool is maintained twice weekly and is surrounded by a patio and has sufficient space for sunbathing and complete relaxation, with sun beds provided.

A garden table and chairs overlook the pool.

An outside kitchen, adjacent to the pool is equipped with a BBQ and a fridge, to ensure a perfect dining experience.

On the Ground Floor, there is a garden with a grass area which is perfect for children to play, under the cypress and orange trees.

Cars maybe parked securely inside the villa's garage with its automatic sliding doors.

A tennis court, a handball and football playground are available for use and are approximately a 5 minute walk from the villa.

Booking & Payment Info

To reserve the property, the client must complete and sign the booking form and return it, together with a non-refundable deposit equal to 25% of the total cost of the holiday.

The remaining balance, including the security deposit, is payable not less than 8 weeks before the start of the rental period. Reservation made within 8 weeks of the start of the rental period, require full payment at the time of booking.

A security deposit of £150 per week or part week of a rental period is required in case of damage to the property or its contents. However, the sum reserved by this clause shall not limit the client's liability to the owner. The owner will account to the client for the security deposit and refund the balance due within two weeks after the end of the rental period.

The rental price includes electricity, gas, water, swimming pool and garden maintenace.

There is also a high chair and baby cot available.

Lettings are from Saturday to Saturday.

The rental period shall commence at 4.00 pm on the first day and finish at 10.00 am on the last day of the rental period.

The maximum number to reside in the property must not exceed 6 unless the owner has given written permission.

A linen pack can be ordered for £6 per person, per week. Should the rental be for 2 weeks, it is possible to opt for a 1 week linen pack and wash the bed linen during the rental.

A Gourmet meal on arrival, or during the rental stay! Choose from an extensive menu and a restaurant quality meal ready on arrival at the villa. This is often very welcome after a long day of travelling. The menu is sent at the same time as the directions to the property. This service may be ordered at any time during the rental period but a minimum of 24 hours notice is required.

Horse riding can be arranged, whether you are an expert, a novice or a complete beginner. What could be lovelier than a ride through vineyards on a trail that takes you through, and a long the river.

A local wine tour can also be arranged. See and taste some of the best wines in the region.
